[There is nothing disputed about the golan heights! Israel stole and retained them after the war with Syria-ed]
With pressing combat commitments in Afghanistan, the era of Canadian soldiers wearing blue berets at this remote UN outpost in disputed territory between Israel and Syria drew to a close yesterday.
Canada’s logistics battalion was stood down in the Golan, ending a 32-year presence that began soon after the 1973 Arab-
Israeli War. During that time, more than 12,000 Canadian troops honoured Lester B. Pearson’s peacekeeping dream by wearing United Nations blue while on duty in this no-man’s land.
