The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops wants Ottawa to reduce barriers that slow down immigration and keep children separated from their parents, sometimes for years.
The bishops include the suggestion in a letter on Immigration and the Protection of Refugees made public Tuesday.
The pastoral letter’s other suggestions include the creation of a mechanism that would allow a person seeking asylum to appeal a negative refugee ruling.
“Determining refugee status can mean a decision involving the death of a human being, yet it is the one and only judicial decision for which an appeal mechanism does not exist,” the letter says.
“A refugee whose claim is turned down by a single officer at the Refugee Board hearing ought to have the right to appeal.”
The letter was released ahead of the World Day for Migrants and Refugees on Sunday.
The bishops’ conference chastised Ottawa for making it overly difficult for immigrants to bring children and other family members to Canada. Numerous steps blocking the way included security checks, DNA tests and medical examinations, said the letter.

Those good bishops & cardinals should concentrate in saving souls insteadt of promoting large scale third world immigration which is counterproductive to any white country. It is bad enought that the church allowed the sexual misdeeds inside the organization for a long time.
